BIOGRAPHY
Wendy Small's photograms are made by meticulously arranging small objects into "fractals" or patterns. Recognizable objects are used such as ice coffee lids, telephone jacks, medical supplies, hardware, cocktail mixers, etc. These objects are placed directly onto the photo paper, exposed and then removed. The final product is a unique photogram, or camera-less photograph, in which the objects are no longer recognizable. The process engulfs them in light, and what remains are glowing lines and overlapping translucent forms. These qualities are enhanced by the variations in warm-tone papers or by toning them in color.
