Lourdes Sanchez, I didn't know if I was above water or below, I only knew every living being was singing

New York, NY – Sears-Peyton Gallery is pleased to announce the third solo exhibition of Lourdes Sanchez. The five large scale paintings in the main gallery present Sanchez's poetic, serene and masterful use of watercolor. Her virtuosity is displayed through her disparate compositions united by the hand of a painter who is comfortable with the lack of control needed to evoke the natural world. The Project Room contains five smaller watercolors that reflect the artist's interest in elemental geometric form.

"My work is propelled by a desire to both revel in and to transcend (perhaps as well to ultimately alchemize) a persistent sense of displacement in the human world. These works aim to fuse ancient and archetypal geometric forms with inky randomness to form totems to the idea that the big mess of it all will be beautiful eventually, and sometimes is so, even now. These are images that, having traveled the arc of the Ugly Duckling paradigm, are emboldened to be quietly and defiantly elegant." - Lourdes Sanchez

An opening reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, October 12th from 5-7PM. Exhibition hours are Tuesday-Friday 11am-5pm and Saturday from 12pm-5pm.
