Sears-Peyton Gallery is pleased to present Sojourn, an exhibition of recent paintings by New York artist Shawn Dulaney. This is Dulaney’s sixth solo exhibition with the gallery.
On view at the gallery will be eleven paintings from Shawn Dulaney's most recent series of medium to large format abstract landscapes whose translucent structures are layered with chromatic veils of light. The cloudy white hues of atmospheric paintings, such as All in the Mind or Unmoved, are given a weighty balance by the darker ancillary fields in Delicate Hour or Silence. Simply from the pointedly named titles, each painting introduces the viewer to a unique journey. Horizontal fields of moss green depict a tender and verdant terrain, while ribbons of beryl stretch from one edge of the picture plane to the next.
For the past decade, Dulaney has painted the landscape in a spirit that breaths a memorable light into a familiar vernacular of landscape. In this sense the paintings in this exhibition continue to depict both an encompassing viewpoint and at the same time elusive ideals of serenity. The images range from a harmonious chromatic reality such as in Silver Rain, to the unexpected glowing magenta horizon of The Duration. There is a painterly play of form, surface and action where the delicate blur of abstraction and accumulation depicts a sentiment only nature can afford.
Born and raised in Colorado, Shawn Dulaney lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons. She exhibits at Sears-Peyton Gallery in New York. Dulaney was included in the Parrish Art Museum’s prestigious Juried Exhibition and was a featured artist in the publication “New American Paintings #20.” Her work has been acquired by many private and public collections, including The Hunterdon Museum of Art, NJ; Pfizer Inc, NY; General Electric, NY; Steve Buscemi, NY; Annie Proulx, WY. Dulaney has also received critical acclaim in the New York Times.
